10 Jan 2024

An agreement on the project to enhance water security with renewable energy in Aden Governorate was signed on Wednesday, which is contributed by both the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) and the Selah Foundation for Development, in Riyadh, where about 800,000 persons will benefit from the project in Yemen's Aden governorate.
During the signing of the agreement, SDRPY was represented by the Assistant General Supervisor of SDRPY Eng. Hassan Al-Attas, while the Selah Foundation for Development was represented by its Executive Director, Ali Hassan Bashmakh.
The project will work to elevate water security in Aden by drilling and equipping ten wells in the Bi'r Ahmed field using renewable energy through supplying and installing a solar power station with a production capacity of 600 kilowatts, which will reduce dependence on electricity in operating water wells and the cost of constructing a water unit.
The project will offer training sessions to workers and technicians responsible for the operation of the solar energy station. It will also increase the field's water production capacity by 36%. An administrative building to manage the field and control the solar energy station will also be established within the project.
The aspired project is one of the development aspects adopted by SDRPY and the Selah Foundation for Development within their partnership in Yemen that aims to promote sustainable development, including water security.
