Embrace More Opportunities for Greater Change

Salem, a young man from Namar, was compelled to relocate to Al Ghaydah Governorate. After his father passed away, he aimed to find better employment prospects in order to enhance the well-being of his family, as he was now responsible for providing for his family of seven. His determined spirit led him to refuse to give in to despair.

A ray of hope emerged when the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) provided water tanks for the Sanitation Fund. As a result, he found employment as a water tanker driver, transporting safe and fresh water to irrigate trees, and provide water for people in five different areas.

Salem demonstrated unwavering determination until he achieved a stable job that sustained his and his family's well-being.

Mona's Wishes Shimmer Brightly

I am Mona, and attending school has always been one of my greatest dreams. Our school was timeworn and behind the times: worn-out chairs, cramped rows filled with dreamy students like myself, and scarce, hard-to-find books eagerly passed from one student to another. I indulged the fond hope of attending a school that enables us to achieve our aspirations.
However, there came a day that truly felt like a dream. It was the day when the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) implemented a project to support our school with the aim of providing equal learning opportunities for all and improving the school environment.
We viewed the new chairs as pillars supporting our unity and shared dreams. Fortunately, We received personal copies of the books, a true treasure. We witnessed the SDRPY's commitment to education as buses were provided to transport us from remote areas to the center of learning, where hope motivated us and ambition inspired us.

The Mettle of a Framer

The sun, my faithful companion, always arrives on time. It has never failed me once, heralding the start of my day as it rises and shines all over the sky. I wake up invigorated, driven by the determination of farmers who have forged a deep connection with the land.
A pivotal moment that had a profound impact on my life was the provision of a greenhouse by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY). Driven by my love for my land and that greenhouse, I thoroughly inspect the crops with great enthusiasm, take care of the crops that need attention and harvest the ones that have ripened.
With dedication and advanced farming techniques such as greenhouses and improved irrigation systems, our agricultural productivity has significantly increased. Praise be to Allah, crops have thrived and produced plentiful harvests, providing us with sustenance and enabling us to sell at local markets.

Feelings of Joy that Could Hardly Be Contained

Joyful ululations filled the entire place as we entered the Craft Lab in Socotra Governorate.
I felt surprised and amazed in that moment, but soon profound happiness gripped me as I saw their eyes brimming with emotion. One of them began reciting a poem in a resonant voice. Although I couldn't grasp the meaning of the verses in the Soqotri language, their emotions seemed more profound than words could ever convey.

At that moment, I reflected on all the exhaustion I had felt before arriving here, which now seemed insignificant. That feeling of exhaustion entirely dissipated when a woman named Aisha approached me from a distance and warmly embraced me. Her face beamed with joy, and her embrace felt different, and unexpected, and filled me with a sense of gratitude. After she embraced me, many other beneficiaries approached me, each expressing themselves in their unique way, unimpeded by language barriers. One of them mentioned how this project had fundamentally transformed her life and that of many others like her.

It was then that I truly understood how all the moments of effort I had endured before were worth it and more. The sincere feelings and joyful emotions they showed motivated and spurred me to continue contributing to the field of development and reconstruction.

Dr. Hala AlSaleh
Representative of the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) during her journey to Socotra

A long-cherished dream

When I was ten years old, I used to watch my mother as she sat in the living room sewing. I waited and waited until she finished the dresses. I loved the sound of the sewing machine. It was music to my ears. It embodied persistence, determination, and the long-awaited dream of opening my tailor shop.

I knitted my dream, stitch by stitch, until, eventually, I was able to open my own tailor shop. With funding from the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen, my dream came true. The Program believed in me and in my dreams, providing me with all the necessary support to open the shop. This success inspired others, and provided the women in my community with job opportunities and a source of livelihood, just like how the sewing machine was for my mother and my family years ago.

The Recovery of a Champion

Seven years ago, I was diagnosed with kidney failure, and my life was never the same. Continuous, unrelenting, and non-stopping pain consumed me, and my health was deteriorating fast. Each day was a battle against despair.

Determined to fight, I couldn’t let the disease take over me.

I faced it with my swollen eyes and exhausted body. I faced it with all the energy that I had left. Two grueling months on dialysis helped – but hope dwindled as toxins built up and essential equipment failed. Plunged into a coma, I felt utterly alone. However, while I was fighting for my survival, SDRPY came and equipped the dialysis center at my hospital. With renewed access to life-saving treatment, I began to heal.

Today, I stand tall.
I’ve survived and emerged stronger.
Now, I start living.

Starting Over – One seed at a time !

Muhsen, a farmer, faced a devastating ordeal when Cyclone Luban obliterated his entire farm, destroying his garlic and corn crops with it. In a matter of hours, his livelihood shattered, and he was plunged into a world of uncertainty!

Forced to relocate to another farm and with no seeds in hand, Muhsen struggled to start over. As his perspective became increasingly gloomy, a beacon of hope emerged through SDRPY’s support. Equipped with fresh seeds, Muhsen embarked on a path to recovery one seed at a time. Thanks to this timely assistance, he not only rebuilt his life but also pioneered maize cultivation in Al Ghaydah District, marking a significant agricultural breakthrough for the area.

Abdulrahman’s battle for survival took a hopeful turn!

Abdulrahman, a bright elementary school student, underwent a terrifying ordeal when medical neglect led to kidney failure. His deteriorating health affected his way of living, including his school performance. Despite initial recovery, his health deteriorated again in 2018 due to insufficient medical care. With toxins accumulating in his body and specialized treatment equipment no longer operational in Aden, Abdulrahman slipped into a coma.

A glimmer of hope emerged when SDRPY launched a program to equip the dialysis center at the Republican Hospital. With the presence of state-of-the-art equipment, Abdulrahman's battle for survival took a hopeful turn. His health gradually improved, and he is on his way toward full recovery. We at SDRPY wish Abdulrahman a speedy recovery and anticipate his return to school soon, where his bright future awaits.
