Saudi Arabia Provides SAR1.3 Billion to Support Yemen’s Budget, Operating Expenses and Salaries

01 Mar 2026

Upon the directives of the Saudi leadership, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), has provided SAR1.3 billion to help address Yemen’s budget. The support will cover salary expenses and operating expenses, to address the urgent needs of the Yemeni government and underscore the Kingdom’s commitment to promoting stability and prosperity for the brotherly Yemeni people.
The support aims to lay the foundations for economic and financial stability in Yemen by reducing the budget deficit, ensuring regular government financial flows and salary payments, and improving fiscal policy management. These measures are intended to foster a sustainable national economic trajectory and advance economic and social development.
This new economic assistance is expected to strengthen purchasing power, provide regular income for families, improve living standards, and revitalize commercial markets, thereby supporting economic stability and sustainable recovery in Yemen.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remains the largest historical supporter of Yemen in humanitarian, developmental, and economic terms, with its interventions forming a cornerstone of the country’s recovery at both macro and micro levels.
Between 2012 and 2026, the Kingdom has provided a series of economic and developmental support packages totaling more than $12.6 billion, which have been instrumental in strengthening Yemeni institutions, maintaining essential services, and alleviating economic and social pressures. These packages include deposits and grants to the Central Bank of Yemen, helping to achieve financial balance and support macroeconomic stability.
The SDRPY, established in 2018 by a generous royal decree from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has played a significant role in consolidating the foundations for sustainable development, mitigating humanitarian and economic challenges, and promoting comprehensive development that benefits present and future generations.
Since its inception, the program has delivered 268 development projects and initiatives across eight vital sectors, with a total value exceeding $1 billion. These projects have improved infrastructure and basic services, raised living standards, enhanced food security, built the capacities of Yemeni personnel, and created job opportunities, contributing to efforts to establish sustainable peace and comprehensive, lasting development for the brotherly people of Yemen.
