King Faisal Center Hosts Lecture on Saudi Developmental, Humanitarian and Economic Efforts in Yemen

In a lecture entitled “The Humanitarian Situation in Yemen from Relief to Reconstruction,” Amb. Al-Jabir spoke on the history of the situation in Yemen, short-term and long-term projects and initiatives of Saudi Arabia to support Yemeni recovery, the impact on different sectors of USD 180 million in Saudi oil derivatives delivered to Yemen in the fourth quarter of 2018 under a Saudi royal decree, and the terms of the December 2018 Stockholm Agreement between representatives of the Iran-backed Houthi militias and the legitimate Government of Yemen.
Amb. Al-Jabir, who is also the supervisor of the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), described the humanitarian efforts of the Kingdom in Yemen, including the donation and delivery of thousands of tons of aid by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) over the past year, and the impact on Yemenis’ lives of the supply of the oil derivatives.
Al-Jabir noted that the Kingdom had both facilitated the efforts of international agencies with logistical assistance through the Yemen Comprehensive Humanitarian Operations (YCHO), and donated record sums to the United Nations’ Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), which held its annual High-Level Pledging Event for 2019 at the end of February.
“However, what Yemenis need most is sustainable economic empowerment, which means nationwide development and a diversified economy with greater opportunities for employment and advancement,” the ambassador said. “In furtherance of these goals, the Kingdom is implementing a wide range of projects as part of the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen, which is aimed at achieving sustainable peace and prosperity for our Yemeni brothers and sisters.”
